Prairie Pieces

Hints, Tips and Corrections:

Block 2
There was a typo in the first printing on the block two sashing pieces.
It should read: Fabric 7 - cut 1 - 2" fussy cut square and fabric 2 - cut 4 - 2" x 5¾".

Blocks 6 & 9 Two Part Rectangles:
Original Method - We have had some questions about block 6 and 9 squaring up the two-part rectangles. In order for the pieces to square up properly, the 60 degree line must start from one end of the ruler as shown in the diagram. This method will allow for about 1/8" to 1/4" float on the points of the rectangles when pieced.
Rulers that have the 60 degree angle on the end are:

Alternate Paper Piecing Method - Do to some concerns about the difficulty of the two-part rectangles on blocks 6 and 9 we are providing an alternate SIMPLE paper piecing method. This paper piecing method will allow for a perfect intersection of all seams.
The original paper piecing pattern for block 9 should be reversed. The block 9 patterns on the right should be fabric 4 and the block 9 patterns on the left should be fabric 7.  You can also download the updated copy below. Note: On some printers this pdf prints slightly smaller. When you print out the pattern the outside rectangle with seam allowance should measure 2½” x 4½”. If it does not try the jpg version.

Thread for Appliqué:
The thread we used for appliqué is Coats and Clarks - Star Thread (Machine Quilting). For the green (Olivenite) we used V37-292A and for the red (Barberry Red) we used V37-39B.

Great Rulers for Squaring Up Half Square Triangles and Hour Glass blocks:
We have discovered a couple of great rulers, The Tucker Trimmer I and II, for squaring up half square triangles and hour glass blocks in our pattern.
They come in two sizes: one that squares up ¼” and ¾” increments -DT05 - Tucker Trimmer II and one that squares up ½” and 1” increments - DT03 - Tucker Trimmer I.
The website for ordering these rulers is:
